Keeping your iron clean is essential for sewists.  Not only does it prevent dirty marks being transferred it also helps the iron glide over the fabric so it can be used to press accurately.  The feeling of dread one can experience when interfacing curls and sticks to the plate of the iron is probably one known to many of us.

The truly magical Magic Sponge Eraser

This week’s top tip deals with a nifty item that can be purchased very easily from homestores/hardware shops or on-line.  I have found this to be excellent for cleaning the sole of the iron efficiently and without too much fuss.  I introduce the Magic Sponge Eraser.

Take the eraser and moisten it.  Gently rub the eraser over the dirty area in small circles.  You will see the mark start to lift off the iron returning your sole plate to it’s normal sparkly self.  You can wash the eraser out with clean water and leave it to dry ready for next time.
