Mrs Bowden’s top tip – unpicking stitches

Occasionally we have to unpick our work…the stress this can induce is formidable so this week’s top tip deals with how to unpick successfully.

Excellent quick unpick

Excellent quick unpick

When unpicking lots of people like to use a seam ripper which are jolly useful.  You can use the lid to extend the handle making it much easier to use.

Unpick every 3rd stitch

If you have a long line of stitches to unpick cut every 3 or 4 stitches on the back and then you can pull the top thread out which is very satisfying and quick.

If you are left with any little holes in the fabric just rub then you’re your nail to close them up.  You can then give them a steam/press depending on the fabric to return the surface to it’s former glory.

In stitches,
