Top Tip Thursday – directional prints
When you are preparing to cut fabric it is useful to know the ‘direction’ of the print.
A one direction print has a clear and regular pattern. The fabric can only be used in one direction or you will have upside down sections in your product/garment. In this example the hedgehogs and mushrooms all face the same way and if the fabric was turned it would be very apparent.
Here we have a two direction print. The fabric can be turned 180° without ruining the flow of the pattern.
This is an example of a multi-way print – you can turn the fabric whichever way you like and the pattern still works and flows correctly. Although remember to stay on the grain of the fabric as directed by the pattern you are using.
