Top tip Thursday – how to pin

Some of the best tips are the simplest. This week’s top tip is about pinning for woven fabrics and knit fabrics.

It’s pretty self-explanatory but here goes.

Pin at right angles to the cut edge on woven fabrics.

For woven fabrics; pin at right angles to the cut edge so that the head of the pin is sticking out at the right hand side. This makes it super easy to remove them whilst you are sewing and stop you running over them and possibly damaging your machine.

Pin parallel to the edge for knit fabrics.

For knit fabrics when you are using an overlocker; pin parallel and about 2 cms away from the edge. This allows the fabric to be held in place whilst overlocking and then pins are out of the way of the blade.
