Just a few words of wisdom about press studs. Not used that frequently but when they are used they are a godsend. A press stud is made of two parts the ‘knob’ and the ‘well’. The ‘knob’ section should be sewn onto the outer part of the garment or product, the ‘well’ to the inner. Here is an extremely clear and useful diagram from Ann Ladbury’s 1976 book ‘Making it Fit’ a handy and hint packed book (if you ever see it in a charity shop buy it!).

In the picture you can see that a buttonhole stitch has been used to attach the stud to the fabric. This is an extremely secure method but overstitching also works well too. Also see how a pin has been used in the centre of the studs to make sure they are aligned.

In stitches,
