Mrs Bowden’s top tip – removing tailor tacks
Mrs Bowden’s top tip – removing tailor tacks
I am just off on a short break to the Latitude Festival and have been busy making plenty of lovely vintage style dresses for myself and friends. I have been inspired to write this week’s top tip as have spent considerable time removing the dredges of tailor tacks from many of these dresses. As you can see from the picture the tacks can get trapped in darts/placement lines of pleats/zip insertion points etc.
Once the garment is made up, grab a pair of eyebrow tweezers and pull the threads out of the garment. This really is the simplest way I have found to get rid of the blighters post garment construction.
Here is one of my Latitude Dresses using Retro Butterick ’51 pattern number B5880. A fully lined and fitted delight – I choose to go pink flamingo as it makes me feel really happy when I’m wearing it and it is easy to manage at a festival (without being too indelicate layers of tulle and fabric at Festival toilets can be a challenge to manage!).
Until next time.
